For the app to work as expected, each Shopify collection can only appear once in the category tree. This ensures clear, predictable breadcrumb paths and parent/child/sibling relationships between categories.

Designing your category tree is the very first step of using Ultra Categories. Here's how to get started:

  • Ensure you have created products and collections in your Shopify Admin (as well as added the products to all their respective collections)

  • In Ultra Categories > Category tree, click on Add category Note: For the app to work correctly, each Shopify collection can only appear once in the category tree. If there are no unassigned collections available, the "Add category" will be grayed out and you will need to create more collections or delete/edit existing categories to unassign those collections.

  • In the popup:

    • Select a collection: This dropdown only shows unassigned collections (collections that do not already exist in your category tree). Note: If the collection doesn't exist yet, just create it in your Shopify admin and open the popup again to refresh the list.

    • Display title: When you select a collection, it will autocomplete to the collection name. You can adjust it to be shorter

    • Add all unassigned collections (optional): Quickly add all unassigned collections from your store.

Add category popup
  • Click on Save; the newly created category will appear at the bottom of the category list.

  • Now, drag and drop each category using the toggle icon (or use your Enter and arrow keys to reorder by keyboard alone) to create your hierarchy.

  • Don't forget to hit Save regularly. You're now ready to add the app's blocks to your theme!
